Joel received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Florida in Gainesville and a Master of Arts Degree in Counseling from Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. He has been a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida since 2005. Joel is a retired U.S. Probation Officer (30 years) and continues to receive referrals from criminal justice agencies for clients with substance abuse and mental health issues. Joel has conducted Alcohol/Drug Recovery groups for approximately 20 years and currently he is associated with New Hope Treatment Center in Titusville, FL as a resource for outpatient addiction treatment. Joel has extensive experience with premarital and marital clients including those who have been impacted by pornography and sexual addictions. He is trained in Sexual Addictions, Military Care & Counsel, Peer Support Counseling, Adolescent Issues and Critical Incident Stress Management. Joel has written two books, Mission Possible: Becoming a Soul Winning Agent (World Aflame, 2013) and The Overlooked: Ministering Grace in a Broken World (World Aflame, 2019). The latter makes the case for counseling ministries, including peer support counseling, in the local church. Joel is available for conducting training and speaking on the topic of establishing counseling ministries in the church. In the state of Florida, Joel is a provider for most insurance panels and Employee Assistance Programs (EAP). He sees self-pay clients and offers a sliding scale, when necessary.
