Denise received her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Nationally Board-Certified Counselor (NCC). She is the owner of Life Recovery Counseling, LLC in Alabama, and the creator and host of the “Real Talk 238” podcast that focuses on challenging topics related to the church and mental health. Denise is the founder of Resolute and Refresh Ladies Ministries which is focused to help pastors' wives, ministers' wives, and women in ministry.
Denise’s area of specialty includes ministerial hurts, forgiveness, trauma, trauma-informed care, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), complex-PTSD (Co-PTSD), and dissociative identity disorder (DID). She has spoken and taught in a variety of venues which include women’s conferences, women’s groups, college/career groups, churches, treatment centers, and universities. The subjects have included forgiveness, mother wounds, DID, mental health in college, trauma-informed care, and ministerial hurts. Denise trains ministers and church leadership on Trauma-informed Care, Suicide Awareness, and Suicide Prevention. She provides consultations to medical and mental health professionals; and for therapists who are wanting to start a private practice.
Since 2010, Denise has worked with individuals of all ages that have struggled with forgiveness, grief, isolation/loneliness, worry, stress, depression, anxiety, anger, suicidal thoughts, eating disorders, intrusive thoughts, sexual abuse, spiritual/ritual abuse, church hurts, and ministerial hurts. She works with first responders, veterans, men, women, and individuals who serve in ministry. She incorporates a holistic and integrative therapeutic approach since clients don’t usually fit in a “one-size fits all” method of treatment. Denise offers both in-person and online therapy. She works mostly with self-pay but does offer a reduced fee for those who qualify.
