Alyx Deaner earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. During her clinical studies, Alyx worked with traumatized children who experienced physical and sexual abuse and extreme neglect in a Child Advocacy Center. Her passion for traumatized children led her to seek advanced trauma training. Alyx is certified as a Child and Adolescent Trauma Professional (CATP).
As a counselor, Alyx uses evidenced-based theories such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT), play therapy, sand tray therapy, and Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) to meet the specific needs of each client. She provides a safe and child-friendly therapeutic environment where clients can open up.
She currently works as a Therapist at Tree of Life Counseling in Rochester Hills, Michigan seeing children and adolescents. Her clients have an array of diagnoses including Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Acute Stress Disorder, and ADHD. Alyx works closely with the parents/caregivers to build a strong therapeutic alliance with the entire family unit.
Alyx attends Faith Apostolic Church of Troy under the leadership of Pastor Marvin Walker. She is a wife and mother. In her free time, Alyx enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.
